The ride

I know everyone is going to get sick of hearing about "the ride" but that's the beauty of the internet... if you don't like it turn to something else.

After the 30 mile ride last week I had serious doubts about putting in 100 miles on the ride.  However, the next several days really felt better than I expected.  My legs were tired, but responsive and not sore.  I think 100 miles is definitely in range now.

Yesterday, I put in a 44 mile ride.  I think the the late afternoon rides I have been putting in have really drained my legs.  While the 44 miles did not seem that hard, this afternoon I did a 9 mile recovery ride that pretty well wore me out.  It did help to work the leg muscles and I feel better overall, but riding in 100+F weather for three of the past four days really seems to have sapped my strength.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few days.  According to my training plan (such as it is) I can do the 44 miler again next weekend and still be on track.  However, I might try to push it to 50 if I feel good.

I will add the link to the 44 mile route once I have uploaded it to MapMyRide.

By the way, if I haven't annoyed you too much on the other sites, please consider giving to the National MS Society via this link.  It will keep me from having to really beg as we get closer to October 3, 2009.

Thanks.
